Under the authority of the FAA Riga Flight School operates with an independent certified flight instructor 4466841CFI and offers the following flight and ground training courses for issuance of FAA pilot certificates and ratings.

All programmes require ground and flight training. Ground (theoretical knowledge) can be self-study, guided study or full classes with a ground instructor, depending on student’s needs.

Flight training can be completed in Riga, however, where written tests are required a short trip to the United States will be needed, usually 3 days. We work with examiners in North Carolina and offer full support in terms of scheduling and other arrangements.

FAA Instrument Rating

Aim - to become proficient in single pilot airplane operation in conditions below visual meteorological (IFR) weather conditions. Receive the required and sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to operate under IFR.

Result - receive an FAA IR.

Time Scale - A full-time course of flight and ground (theoretical) training takes between 3 weeks and 2 months usually, depending on student availability, determination and will.

Entry Requirements

  • be at least 17 years old
  • be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
  • hold a valid FAA Private Pilot Certificate at least
  • hold a valid FAA Class 3 Medical Certificate (or medical as per foreign license if FAA certificates is Foreign Based)

Completion Requirements

  • receive and satisfactorily complete a ground training course (can be self-study e.g. Kind School).
  • receive and satisfactorily complete a flight training course of at least 15 flight hours.
  • log at least 25h of flight time “under the hood” (can be with CFI).
  • pass the required FAA written test
  • pass a checkride with a FAA examiner

FAA Commercial Pilot

Aim - to become proficient in single pilot airplane operation to the level of commercial pilot. Receive the required and sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to operate in commercial environment.

Result - receive an FAA Commercial Pilot’s certificate.

Time Scale - A full-time course of flight and ground (theoretical) training takes between 3 weeks and 1 month usually, depending on student availability.

Entry Requirements

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
  • hold a valid FAA Private Pilot Certificate
  • hold a valid FAA Class 3 Medical Certificate

  • receive and satisfactorily complete a flight training course of at least 3 flight hours (usually takes at least 10h)
  • pass the required FAA written test
  • pass a checkride with a FAA examiner

FAA Flight Instructor

Aim - Receive the required and sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to operate as FAA flight instructor.

Result - receive an FAA CFI certificate.

Time Scale - A full-time course of flight and ground (theoretical) training takes between 1 and 3 months usually, depending on student availability.

Entry Requirements

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
  • hold a valid FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate (at least)
  • hold a valid FAA Class 3 Medical Certificate

Completion Requirements

  • receive and satisfactorily complete a ground training course (can be self-study e.g. Kind School).
  • receive and satisfactorily complete a flight training course of at least 3 flight hours (usually takes at least 10h)
  • pass two required FAA written tests
  • pass a checkride with a FAA examiner
